What is Reverse Vacation Walking Syndrome and why does it matter?
Have you ever struggled with reverse vacation walking syndrome? It's a real thing. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with added motivation and encouragement to get out the door, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going to build a life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.
They've got road shoes, trail shoes. Recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference.
How do the new Topo Athletic ST6 shoes feel and why are they important for walking?
So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.
Ilmainen kokeilu shopifi.com-sivustolla.
Recently I got a text from Ava's twin sister, my sister in law, Angel. Here's what she said. Here's an idea for a podcast. Of course you know, I just got back from a week at your house the week before last. And while I was down there, meaning here in Myrtle Beach, Angel lives in Maryland. While I was in Myrtle Beach on vacation, I did a lot of walking. And I can attest she did. She was out every morning, taking long walks, going out on walks with Ava and then the three of us. A lot of walking she did. So while she was on vacation, she says I did a lot of walking. But since I have been back home in Maryland, I've been playing catch up. Places I need to go after work. Доктор's appointments before work, working longer hours.
I came away from vacation thinking I'm going to keep up with this. It was great. There was momentum. It was fantastic. This is gonna last, little extra there I added into her text. And then she says it was great in the past week and a half it has been difficult just to get the ten minute walk in. Life got in the way. But I don't want to lose momentum. I don't want to lose ground. Long story short, I'm thinking when we're doing great and then something sidelines us for more than just a day or two, How to keep up momentum and even the vision to keep moving forward. And I responded to Angel, I said, that that's a great idea. Now there are a couple of things, a couple of different ways I could go with this, some of which I've talked about before, but one aspect I've never
talked about before. It's reverse vacation walking syndrome. What happens is you've got this robust walking habit. You're doing it every day, getting those steps in, you're being consistent, you got the motivation, even on those days when you don't have the motivation, you're gonna get out the door, take the walk. And then you go on vacation, your routine changes, your schedule changes, your mindset changes, and you take a break from walking. And then you reach the end of the vac vacation, whether it's a few days, a week, couple of weeks, it's like, Oh I haven't I haven't kept up with my habit.
