What is the purpose of today’s 10‑minute walk in Colonial Williamsburg?

Dave Paul 0:03
Today I'm combining two of my favorite things in an episode in a way that I've never combined them before. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation, even encouragement to get out, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going, to build a life-lasting, life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe.

How do the new Topo Athletic ST6 shoes feel and why does the wide toe box matter?

Dave Paul 0:50
With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes. recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly.

The days are longer, the calendar is filling up, and I want to feel as good as this beautiful summer weather.

Why is the host combining walking with coffee for the first time?

Unknown 1:55
That's why I've been loving Groons. It's one daily pack of gummies that covers my greens, vitamins, and minerals, and even has six grams of prebiotic fiber. So I don't need to juggle a complicated wellness routine on top of everything else. They taste amazing. They're easy to toss in my Bag on the go plus their vegan gluten free and HSA FSA eligible for reimbursement. Save up to fifty-two percent off with promo code podcast at groons.co. Welcome to day 23 of the 30-day walking challenge. I mentioned that I'm combining two of my favorite things. I actually am combining three of my favorite things in an episode in a way that I've never combined them before. First off, I am in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. It is still early in the morning, and the landscapers are out and about. out this morning getting the area ready for I imagine an influx of tourists as the day wears on. Although it's possible that the crowd may be a little bit smaller today because it is expected to get really hot. At the moment I'm walking on Duke of Gloucester Street and I'm heading for coffee. So Williamsburg Walking and coffee. And here's the combination. I've talked about coffee before, I've done episodes from Williamsburg before, and of course walking is sprinkled throughout every episode, but I've never done an episode that looks at the benefits of walking and coffee together.
Dave Paul 3:50
And did you know, because I did not, did you know that there are actually three primary benefits? We're talking real benefits. Of combining Your walk. With coffee. Not necessarily drinking the coffee while you're walking. Батаньи інспроситі. For example. At the moment. I'm walking on Duke of Gloucester Street. And I'm heading to a coffee shop. To get a beautiful cup of black coffee. Now I recognize that not everyone shares my passion for coffee. I'm going to assume that to some degree you share my passion for walking. Otherwise, why would you be listening? But I understand that not everyone shares my passion for coffee. It's actually a passion that I arrived at somewhat late. in life, relatively speaking.
Dave Paul 4:55
I am 66. Two-thirds of my life was spent without coffee.

What are the three primary benefits of pairing a morning walk with coffee?

Dave Paul 5:03
without a habit of consistent coffee drinking. Now the first third, a lot of that was childhood understandable. But the middle third, I don't know, those those were potentially prime coffee years and I love the smell, the aroma of coffee.
