What is the main message of “The Courage To Walk” intro?
The courage of walking. It's probably not what you think. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily ten minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation and encouragement to get out the door and take the walk. Today's 10 minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes.
recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly.
Why does Dave highlight the wide toe box of his new Topo Athletic shoes?

Nicole from Australia writes, I've been a listener since December last year. I'm a mid forties teacher and mom who was struggling with mum overload Periomenopause, and even my sense of identity. I'd given up my gym membership and wondering what to do for health. I stumbled upon your podcast and thought, well I can do that. I can walk. My mantra was this is a marathon, not a sprint. I didn't expect to see visible health outcomes or weight loss. I just said start walking for mental and physical health. I gave myself our five-week summer holidays to establish a habit that would hopefully get me through the busy school term and colder winter months. And it has. By the way, because Nicole is in Australia, the Southern Hemisphere.
Her summer holidays, she doesn't spell this out, but I'm guessing her summer holidays were around the Christmas New Year's break. And Nicole's in winter right now. Back to Nicole's email. I took your advice to never miss two days in a row. And I didn't. For seven months I never missed a couple of days in a row. I walked in rain, inside, or rugged up in winter gear to get that walk done. What was a ten minute walk has become a twenty to thirty minute walk each time. I haven't stepped on a scale but I feel stronger and My legs are more toned. I know my mental health is better and I'm sleeping better. So here comes here comes the plot twist. Well this month, smack bang in the middle of the 30 day walking challenge, I had to go in for a hysterectomy.
I was most annoyed at breaking my walking streak. I'm very proud to say that I only had four days off from walking. That fifth day, with my doctor's blessing, was a slow and steady ten-minute walk. Now a week later I'm back to my twenty minute walks, though still slower than normal. But I'm getting there. Walking has become an anchor to my days. Winter surgery or work, none of those are excuses not to take the walk. I'm so sorry for the essay, but I'm sure you have bad days as much as the rest of us. And I thought it would be nice for you to know that you are literally changing people's lives.
