Why does Dave call this the most important episode of the 30‑day challenge?

Dave Paul 0:02
This might be the most important episode of the entire 30-day challenge. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added encouragement, even motivation to get out the door, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going, to build a life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.

They've got road shoes, trail shoes. Recovery shoes, race shoes. Day three of the 30-day walking challenge. If this is the first time you're hearing about it, three simple components. Number one, make a small commitment to walk every day. Small commitment means a 10-minute walk daily. Not 30 minutes, not 10,000 steps. A simple 10-minute walk every day. Number two, Listen to this podcast every day for encouragement to keep going. And number three track your progress, download the thirty day fitness chain tracker, it's free. There's a link in the show notes. At the end of every 10-minute walk, you color in a shoe print. There are 30 shoe prints connected together. As the chain grows, it becomes added motivation to take the walk on those days when you don't feel like it. Sue says, I did my walk.

I was home before 10. My route is a rail trail. There was once a railroad that has been paved over. Mm-hmm. No motorized vehicles allowed. Usually I'm doing 40 to 45 minutes, but I've really been procrastinating lately, so I'm doing this challenge, restarting, small commitment. Debbie. Dave, thank you for the 30-day challenge. I accept. Being recently declared legally blind means I will be walking in our driveway and front yard. I'm 73 and live in beautiful Forest Port, New York. So if you listened yesterday, I was walking in the rain, it was a light rain, it actually heavied up maybe 30-45 minutes after I got back home, and it was raining pretty hard for many hours. It wasn't until mid-afternoon that things cleared up anyhow.

I'm out walking today and dodging these large puddles of water and being careful. Because I'm walking on a dirt trail, and so I expect there are gonna be some muddy, slippery spots, and now I've got a puddle that's almost the size of a lake. Sherry says, I'm walking in San Diego, California.

What does the new Topo Athletic ST6 shoe feel like and why is the wide toe box important?

Dave Paul 3:56
My husband and I are walking around our neighborhood together after dinner. Sherry, that's awesome. By the way, I have a son who lives near Sherry. son Noah's in the United States Marine Corps. He's stationed at Camp Pendleton and lives in Oceanside, California. So I mentioned that this, in my opinion, is the most important episode of this 30-day challenge. The driver of a challenge like this is the tension. That's the challenge. To walk every day, to string together 30 days of keeping this commitment. As the challenge moves forward and you color in those shoe prints, the tension grows and becomes motivation to keep going on days when you don't feel like it. And you may not believe that at some point you're not going to feel like it, because most of us in the early days of
