What is the episode’s opening story and why does Dave pause recording?
The problem with weight loss goals, you're gonna hear a story today. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10 minute podcast designed to provide you with added motivation and encouragement to get out, take the walk, and keep going to build a life-changing walking habit. Taking a few days off from recording the podcast, not from walking, I'm still walking, but I am taking a couple of days off from recording new episodes. So today's episode originally aired in the summer of twenty twenty four. Today's ten minute walk gets started right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box.
My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need: minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes. recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light.
How do the new Topo Athletic shoes and their features impact Dave’s walk?
Pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. Alright, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm gonna be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com. It is a breezy morning. At times it's even been a windy morning here. There you can hear it. And so I'm gonna actually I'm walking along a sidewalk right now next to a road.
I don't see any traffic, so you're not gonna hear any traffic noise. But I'm going to cross the road and head down what I call the wooded trail. And it should block some of this wind. In fact, that's why. I started walking here when I was re Yeah, you can hear that.
Why does Dave describe the wooded trail and what does it illustrate about his walking routine?
When I was starting this podcast and very sensitive to I need to turn a flashlight on because I am early in the morning. See where I'm going. And I want animals, critters, to see me and be scared well before I get there. And so this is one of the reasons why I started walking this wooded trail as I was recording the podcast. it blocked it provided some buffer for the the wind. There, I can I can hear the wind above the trees. I don't know if you can hear that. But here where I'm walking it's Much quieter. That's nice, I like that. I was listening to a podcast. I listen to podcasts, one of my favorite things to do while I'm walking, and I have a number of podcasts that I listen to that are about podcasting.
Because I want to continue to get better in providing a podcast and episodes that are meaningful for you. Hang on for one second. I'm going to put up hood one of the things about walking back here on the wooded trail that is not really great is that there are a lot of bugs and some of those bugs are mosquitoes and so I need to be somewhat well covered. I've walked back here before recorded episodes and I'm swatting mosquitoes off and sometimes I don't get them off before they get me. So this time, knowing that it was windy today and knowing that I was gonna end up here along the wooded trail, I wanted to make sure that I was covered up, which means I'm gonna be a little warm because it's already warm.
It's gonna be hot later today.
What lesson did Kevin Schmidlin share about weight‑loss goals on his ‘Grow the Show’ podcast?
And we're already starting with the idea that oh yeah, it's gonna be hot and sticky. Now I'm starting to whine just a bit. So I listened to this podcast about podcasting. It's called Grow the Show. The host is Kevin Schmidlin. And in a recent episode he talked about something that I I don't know that I've ever heard him talk about before. He said he has, but I Don't recall hearing it. He used to be big guy. And I've seen pictures of him and you would never get the sense that, oh
