What is the purpose of today’s 10‑minute walking episode?

Dave Paul 0:03
Today we're going to talk about the boost trifecta of walking. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation, encouragement even, to get out, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going, to build a life-lasting, life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes, the ST6. These are minimal shoes, wide toe box. All the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need.

Minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes, recovery shoes, race shoes. All right, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out. Try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm going to be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly.

The days are longer, the calendar is filling up, and I want to feel as good as this beautiful summer weather. That's why I've been loving Groons. It's one daily pack of gummies that covers my greens, vitamins, and minerals, and even has six grams of prebiotic fiber. So I don't need to juggle a complicated wellness routine on top of everything else. They taste amazing. They're easy to toss in my bag on the go. Plus they're vegan, gluten-free and HSA FSA eligible for reimbursement. Save up to 52% off with promo code podcast at grooms.co that's code podcast at G R U N S dot C O.

If you are doing the 30-day walking challenge, today I want to talk about the answer you don't want to the problem you're feeling in the midst of this 30-day walking challenge. I think today is actually the perfect follow-up to yesterday, talked about the messy middle, which really put a little differently, it's that part of a challenge, like a 30-day walking challenge, the part of the challenge that feels hard because you're feeling sluggish, you're feeling slumpy, you're feeling a lack of motivation to keep going. And so I'm gonna share a couple of stories from listeners, and then I'm gonna wrap it up and talk about how really a walk is the answer you don't want to the problem you're feeling.
Dave Paul 3:33
So the first story is from Rena. This was actually a comment left on the Walking is Fitness YouTube page. There's more to this comment, but I wanna read the second half, which is the appropriate part. Serena says, my morning quiet time is spent doing handwork. And what she means by that is crafting. My morning quiet time is spent doing handwork before it gets daylight, but I recently started doing a couple of things before I get to that. I walk a thousand steps before sitting down, stop a few times to drink from a large glass of water. By the time my tea water is heated, I've finished the water, the glass of water. I've reached the thousand steps. I've made my bed. I've gotten out all that I need for my crafting project of the day.

And then she wraps it up with this. I love this jumpstart to my daily walking habit. And then Jeff, who is a listener, sent me this email, which I actually got a few minutes before leaving the house to record today's episode. Jeff says, hi, Dave. I'm doing the 30 day challenge here in June. I did the 90-day challenge in Q4 2024. So the last three months of 2024, October, November, December, Jeff did the 90-day challenge, which essentially is the 30-day challenge times three.
