What is the hardest part of walking that the host introduces?
Today I want to talk about one of the hardest parts of walking, and hopefully you'll never have to experience it. But if you do, you'll understand why this is one of the hardest parts of walking. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with a little added motivation, encouragement even, to get out the door, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going, to build a life-changing, life-lasting walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes, the ST6. These are minimal shoes, wide toe box. All the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box.
My shoes have a zero drop. This is part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need. Minimal shoes, maximal cushion. They've got road shoes, trail shoes, recovery shoes, race shoes. All right, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box and these are nice looking and very light, very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, topoathletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you.
All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in and yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm going to be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out. Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, topoathletic.com. Welcome to day 10 of the 30-day walking challenge. Simple math. We are one third of the way through. Suzanne wrote me an email. She says, I'm stepping up. I'm stepping up for the 30-day challenge this month on my indoor walking pad. because it is very hot and humid here in South Louisiana. Today, day eight, that's when she wrote the email. Today, day eight, right after breakfast, I hopped on the walking pad and started listening to your podcast. Right before the fun walking fact, you said that time was almost up, and I said out loud, oh man.
Then I just had to laugh. I was actually disappointed that walking time was over. I've been in the habit of exercising every day without fail for several years now, but my routine has gotten stale, and I was not excited about that grind anymore. I found you on YouTube on June 1st, and I think it was fate. Thank you so much, Dave, for making walking something I look forward to every day. Suzanne, thank you, and hi, hope you're enjoying today's walk. Rue B sent me this email. I actually had a 30-minute walk this morning to check on a house and it's just under a mile away. I did my duty, took a deep breath and walked back home. I wish I'd started this 30-day walking challenge sooner and let's hope I push myself to do it again tomorrow.
Thank you for the encouragement. And then Sherry writes, good morning. Thanks for doing this. I have a disease called lipidema, which affects my mobility. I've been working really hard the last year to make lifestyle changes and I've lost 35 pounds. I want to keep the momentum going and adding walking was on my bucket list. Joanne writes, Hi Dave, I'm happy to report it's going great. I'm back to my walks in the morning and this week I'm bumping it up and trying to get at least two days of either increasing the minutes or a second walk during my lunch break. I would love to get back to where I was before my surgery in October. 30 minutes, five days a week. This is the first time since following you that I've actually added walking on the weekends.
As a special needs mom, the weekends are a little tough, but I have managed to make it happen. So how's it going so far? Pretty darn good. Have a great day, Dave.
How do the new Topo Athletic shoes feel and why does the wide toe box matter?
One of the hardest parts of walking, in my opinion, is when you have to restart following an illness or an injury. You had a thing going, you had a habit, you had a routine.
