What is the purpose of today’s 10‑minute walking episode and the new Topo Athletic shoes?

Dave Paul 0:03
Well, this is a little embarrassing. Hi, I'm Dave. Welcome to Walking as Fitness, a daily 10-minute podcast designed to provide you with motivation and encouragement to get out, take the walk, and more importantly, to keep going to build a life-lasting, life-changing walking habit. Today's 10-minute walk starts right after this. I am on my back porch with a box I just got from Topo Athletic. These contain my new shoes. The ST6, these are minimal shoes. Wide toe box, all the Topo Athletic shoes come with a wide toe box. My shoes have a zero drop. This part of a journey I've been on to make my feet stronger, to move towards a more minimal shoe. With Topo Athletic, they've got shoes for every need, minimal shoes, maximal cushion.

They've got road shoes, trail shoes. recovery shoes, race shoes. Alright, let's open the box. And there's a box inside the box. And these are nice looking. And very light. Very light. Let's pull the inserts out, try them on. Boy, I can feel the difference the wide toe box makes instantly. By the way, Topo Athletic, brand new sponsor of Walking is Fitness. You can check them out. Again, TopoAthletic.com. You can do your shopping online. You can also see where you can pick up Topo shoes at a retailer near you. All right, leaving the back porch. Walking in. And yeah, this wide toe box makes a huge difference. So I'm going to be wearing these and I'll give you an update shortly. In the meantime, check them out, Topo Athletic, T-O-P-O, Topoathletic.com.

How do the wide toe box and zero‑drop design of the ST6 affect my walk?

It is day eighteen of the thirty day walking challenge and did you notice? If you have the thirty day fitness chain tracker and you started on June first and you haven't missed a day, you just finished days sixteen and seventeen. Did you notice that seventeen came before sixteen? And if you've looked ahead, day twenty one comes before day twenty. I got an email from Donna. Hi Dave, I have a question for you about the tracker. How come step seventeen is before step sixteen? Same for twenty one and twenty. And why do the arrows at the bottom of the page go in the opposite direction? Is this intentional? A mistake? The messy middle? Or what? I saw Donna's email, looked at the tracker, oh no. Oh no. So the 30-day fitness chain tracker was created by AI in the program Canva.
Dave Paul 3:40
And I had a thirty day tracker and before I did the thirty day walking challenge I wanted to make a better looking tracker. played around with the AI part of Canva and it created something that I thought looked so much better. I was excited. I was excited to present the brand new 30-day fitness chain tracker to the world. It looked great and I never thought to check the order of the numbers because I just assumed that AI could count from one to thirty without messing up. In other words, I didn't double check my work before I put it out in in into the wild, before I made it available. And so not only were four numbers in the wrong place, but the arrows at the bottom along the loop suddenly started going in the other direction, I was embarrassed.
Dave Paul 4:32
So I went back into Canva and tried to get AI to correct the mistake. I thought it would be rather easy. Turns out it was not. In fact, with each attempt to make it better, to make it right, it only made it worse. And it just kept getting worse and worse and worse. And it took about an hour of my time, maybe more, And all I could successfully do actually was get those arrows at the the bottom to go in the right direction.

Why did the 30‑day fitness chain tracker show day 17 before day 16?

Dave Paul 5:06
That was it. But the numbers sixteen, seventeen, sixteen, twenty-one and twenty remained steadfastly where they were despite my attempts and I'm trying to think of better prompts to get AI to make these corrections, but it wasn't happening.
