What insights does Josh Giddey share about his NBA journey?

Unknown 0:01
It's Giddey on drives. To the hoop. Full shot. It's Giddey to play game. Josh Giddey time.
Rebound loose. Giddey grabs it. No chance. Giddey's open. A three. Got it. Giddey for the win. Goal. Oh, my God.
Unknown 0:16
I can't believe it. 18 assists on 27 made baskets and that's a nice time by Giddey. Here's Giddey back to back. Giddey with a 20 point triple-double. We say it's a triple-double waiting to happen every night. Giddey, drag, flick, literally. Oh, nice pass by Josh Giddey. Not only a double-double, but a triple-double for Josh Giddey. Giddey sees it, crosses through, spins on him, flips it. Oh, Giddey down. Three games of 15-plus assists in the last week.

Giddy time had a great ring to it during that NBA season. And it's my great pleasure to have Josh Giddy with us in the studio at SEN. Josh, welcome home. Welcome to SEN.
Josh Giddey 1:11
Gerald, thanks for having me. It's good to be here and good to be back home.
Gerard Whateley 1:13
Good to get out of the States and back to Melbourne.
Josh Giddey 1:16
Yeah, I'm always ready to get home after a long year. So it's good to get back, get to the footy and do those type of things. See my mates, family. So it's always great being back.
Gerard Whateley 1:23
You already been to the footy?
Josh Giddey 1:25
I've been two games already to round six. I was there straight away Thursday night. Thursday morning I landed and I was there Thursday night for Collingwood Carlton. And Hawthorne as well? We went to a game yesterday. We went to Melbourne-Brisbane yesterday. Oh, good game to go to. Yeah, another good game. So, yeah, it's been good. The comforts of home? Oh, the comforts of home. Sitting up there, meat pies, sausage rolls. It's all going well up there.
Gerard Whateley 1:46
Tell us about when you get to the end of an NBA season. What's the decompression like for you?
Josh Giddey 1:52
Uh, so the game, our last game was a Sunday and then I, we have exam meetings Monday morning and I flew out Monday night. Um, and then I usually take probably two weeks completely off the court. So I don't touch a ball for two weeks. I still lift and get in the weight room a fair bit, but, um, I stay out of the court for a while. And then after two weeks, I'll slowly start to ramp it back up. But yeah, the first couple of weeks is just a lot of relaxing, seeing friends, catching up with people, going to the footy, um, going out to eat. So yeah, a lot of it's just more getting back into the flow of things.
Gerard Whateley 2:17
What's the toll like of a season? How grueling?
Josh Giddey 2:20
Yeah, very. I mean, 82 games is a lot, but it's also the travel and how much time you spend flying in different time zones and different locations. So it is a tough year physically, but also mentally it can be a long thing, especially if you're not winning as much as you want to as a team. And it feels like the days are starting to get longer and harder. But I think you never complain. You're playing in the NBA. It's a dream job. So it's a lot of fun, but it is a long year.
Gerard Whateley 2:45
Bit of time for a reflection.

How does Josh Giddey handle the pressures of being compared to Michael Jordan?

Gerard Whateley 2:46
The first half of this season was just outstanding. When you think about the basketball that you were able to play, what do you think of?
Josh Giddey 2:54
Yeah, I think it was good. I think obviously I was healthy. That was the most important thing. And I think as a team as well, we started to build chemistry and connection. And then I started to find my rhythm and get the team going. And I thought we were making strides in the right direction. But Obviously at the trade deadline, the team completely changed. We had eight new guys come in. It was a brand new team. And obviously I got hurt. I had a hamstring issue that kept me out for a while. So I felt like before that, the flow of not just me, but the team was going in the right direction. And then it kind of changed. I had the trade deadline, you know, around February. And then things started, you know, things obviously didn't go as well that back half of the year for us as a group.
Josh Giddey 3:34
But, yeah, as I said, I felt good in that first half. Just I felt really healthy. I felt as strong as I ever had. I felt like I was confident. That was probably the highest it's ever been. So, yeah, I felt like I was in a groove. But, yeah, obviously injuries kind of disrupted that a little bit.
