Companies are turning to nano-influencers to help sell their products on social media. Plus, how Waymo has racked up thousands of dollars in parking tickets in one American city.
The cars don't drive under the influence. They never speed. So they solve a lot of problems, but they come with their own package of other issues, including parking and not always being able to navigate unpredictable circumstances.
And Cracker Barrel's CEO is leaving after a tumultuous turnaround attempt. It's Monday, July 27th. I'm Danny Lewis for The Wall Street Journal, filling in for Alex Osola. This is the PM edition of What's News, the top headlines and business stories that move the world today. Cracker Barrel says its CEO is stepping down after a tumultuous three years. Julie Massino tried to update the decades-old brand for a younger generation, with moves like changing the Cracker Barrel logo, updating its menu, and removing tchotchkes from the walls. But many of the changes alienated some core diners and conservatives. And the resulting controversy, which was magnified on social media by online bots, led Massino to scrap much of her strategy, though the company appeared to be turning around recently.
Cracker Barrel says she'll be succeeded by David Dino, the former CEO of Blumen Brands, which owns Outback Steakhouse. Cracker Barrel shares fell 2.4 percent today. New York City building officials have halted construction work at a lower Manhattan office tower that's being converted into apartments. The stop work order followed an inspection blitz from the Department of Buildings after two columns buckled at the former Pfizer headquarters building in Midtown earlier this month. The lower Manhattan building stopped construction last week. According to the developer, city inspectors said the contractor failed to notify the city about two concrete beams on the top floor that developed cracks. The developer says the beams cracked in March, but were repaired quickly, and it was considered a minor issue, and that the stop work order was because of a reporting timeline discrepancy, not safety issues.
In markets, NVIDIA shares fell 5%, while Apple climbed 1.2% and regained its title as the largest U.S. company by market cap. Apple closed today at $4.95 trillion.

NVIDIA had spent 272 trading days as the largest U.S. company. NVIDIA joined other chip stocks in sliding today, pulling the Nasdaq lower to start the week. It lost 0.2%, while the Dow Industrials gained 0.5%. The S&P ended the day close to flat. And global oil prices fell below $86 a barrel after the Trump administration paused plans to escalate its war in Iran. Energy supplies are still under pressure, however, after months of conflict. The funeral service for South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is taking place tomorrow in Washington, D.C. WSJ national security reporter Robbie Grammer says Graham's funeral will bring together leaders from around the country and the world.
This is a senator who really made his imprint on Washington, on American foreign policy over decades. And so there are going to be numerous U.S. lawmakers who are going to be there. Of course, Trump administration officials, former administration officials, and some foreign leaders coming into town, including most notably Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It just speaks to the outsized power that Lindsey Graham had. He was seen widely as the quote unquote Trump whisperer of Capitol Hill.
