Well, in nineteen fifty one, Egypt banned climbing the pyramids with the penalty of up to three years in prison. Uh, but it wasn't until nineteen seventy three that they sort of actually enforced it. So that was when people stopped casually climbing. In twenty sixteen, an eighteen year old German tourist, Andre Klinchkin, climbed it and took photos of himself four hundred and fifty five feet up. Small though, A Fletch, tiny. Tony. Uh and he got banned from Egypt for life. Oh, really? See you later. A Danish photographer and a woman with him climbed the Gate Great Pyramids in the late 2010s and took nude photos of her at the top. And that angered many Egyptians has been a high profile climbing case. But in the late 1800s and early 1900s, there was no preservation measurements to protect the pyramid.
The Sphinx was kind of buried under sand. Yeah. Yeah. So they kind of sand uncovered that and that's when people started getting interested in it. Yeah. Uh and people would just climb it up. Climb up it. In nineteen thirty eight there's a there's a photo I've seen uh where a group of tourists are having tea up the Great Pyramids and apparently locals would climb the pyramids and drag their stuff up for them.
