Well good evening. Welcome to our november nineteenth, twenty twenty five Planning Commission meeting. Our agenda this evening consists of Commission business, which includes two decisions only. One deferral motion and four public hearings. Uh yesterday morning, this is starting the Commission's business. Yesterday morning the Board of Supervisors joined the current and past members, uh board members, current and past planning commissioners, current and past staff, including three past planning and development directors, and community members to sell and community members to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the of a fully integrated comprehensive plan. So it's been fifty years. uh since we've had a comprehensive plan of the nature that we're used to.
The board approved a resolution that, among other factors, noted that the nineteen seventy five Comprehensive Plan established for the first time a unified vision and framework to guide the county's growth, land use, transportation, housing, public facilities, and environmental stewardship. It also noted that the plan's foundational principles, which focus on growth in designated centers, I'm sorry, uh yeah, designated centers, preserving open space and fostering vibrant, inclusive communities have shaped Fairfax County's planning philosophy for five decades. And noted as evidence of focusing growth in designated centers, the evolution of thriving mixed use centers such as Tyson's, Reston, and Merrifield.
For all of us who use the comprehensive plan as our guiding land use development document, uh I commend the board for highlighting its importance over the last fifty years in shaping a prosperous, sustainable and inclusive Fairfax County. Uh with that, uh Commissioner Carter, I believe you have a couple of announcements.
Yes, I do. The policies and procedures committee will be meeting tomorrow to go over the bylaws. Uh and the second committee meeting, the uh Urban Development Placement Committee has been postponed. Uh we're we're waiting for the parks to catch up a little bit. Uh that's in phase two, if you remember, of the policy plan. So that will be scheduled uh early February of the new year.
Okay, thank you, Commissioner. Uh Commissioner, you also have a deferral motion, as I understand it? I do.
Caught me by surprise there. So this is SE twenty twenty five dash HM dash four zero one, Comstock rest and station holdings. Uh this is a motion to defer I move to defer the public hearing for SE dash twenty twenty five dash HF dash zero zero zero zero four to january fourteenth, twenty twenty six.

Uh it's been moved by Commissioner Carter, seconded by Commissioner Cortina. Is there any discussion? Hearing no discussion, all those in favor signify by saying aye. Aye. Opposed, nay, any abstention. And that motion carries. Um we also have a decision only uh uh this is uh b to be uh initiated by uh Commissioner Bennett.
Uh thank you, Mr Chairman. Um before we begin, I wanna thank the community for coming out last week and sharing their perspectives on the proposed plan amendment and proposed zoning amendment. As I mentioned last week, our objectives in these amendments is to help preserve these communities as they are, as much as possible, as they are communities where residents know and support one another. Manufactured housing remains a critical piece of the affordable housing toolkit here in Fairfax County and across the country, especially as land costs and construction costs continue to increase.
