Well good evening. I'm gonna use this little gavel. To bring us into order. Welcome to our October twenty ninth, twenty twenty five Planning Commission meeting. Our agenda this evening uh consists of a conversation with Ms. Katie Kristal, CEO of the Tysons Community Alliance. Commission business including approval of minutes of our July meetings and consideration of an updated and revised Volume One of the Fairfax County's urban design guidelines. After Commission business, we'll then transition to two public hearings. Periodically the Commission welcomes individuals to meet with us who whose work has a significant and positive impact on the community and the direction in which our county is evolving.
The Planning Commission's mission is centered on land use within the county, a focus that uh that extends beyond zoning and density decisions. It also considers of quality of life factors such as what makes a place a home, a neighborhood, a thriving community. We also play an important role in pro uh promoting a vibrant and growing economy. Tonight we welcome Miss Katie Kristol, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tysons Community Alliance for a half hour conversation about the alliance, housing in Tysons and the future of this rapidly growing activity center. Miss Crystal recently entered her third year leading TCA. Before diving into housing and uh Tyson's future, I've asked her to provide an overview of the Alliance's role and the progress she believes the organization has made in fulfilling its mission.
Before night, joining TCA, uh Ms Crystal Served eight years as an elected member of the Arlington County Board, including a term as chair. Her time on the board. W uh during her time on the board, her focus was on housing, transit and inclusive development, all critical components in shaping a more sustainable and equitable Tyson's and Fairfax. Her work has earned her numerous accolades and she is recognized as one of Northern Virginia's most influential leaders. Miss Crystal holds a d uh degrees from both the University of Virginia and Princeton. As we navigate through challenging times, Fairfax and Northern Virginia are fortunate to be guided by capable visionary leaders in both the business and government sectors.
Katie stands out as one of the most impactful voices in our region, particularly as an effective bridge between both those sectors. So welcome, Katie. The podium's yours.
Well good evening, Chair Najelsky Eichner. Thank you very much for that kind introduction to which I will spend the next fifteen minutes doing my level best to live up. Thank you very much to all of the commissioners for this audience with you this evening. I know your time is valuable, and I am grateful for this opportunity to share with you some of our work at the Tysons Community Alliance and some insights from our forthcoming housing demand study that I hope will feel resonant and relevant to county wide work. on housing on which I know you all are spending a good deal of your time. Oh let me know. Thank you so much. I will go ahead and launch in with a little bit of background about who we are as the Tysons Community Alliance, where we come from, some areas of focus that I believe align with your interests and the work that you all are doing as the Planning Commission, before turning the balance of time to talk a little bit about housing in Tysons, our current market and some upcoming analysis that we have been doing and its resonance with Countywide's housing initiative.
Objectives for today again to introduce us, to provide highlights from our work in mobility and placemaking, and to share insight again from our upcoming housing demand study. So, first, uh, as many of you all know, uh particularly those commissioners who were involved in the development of the Tyson's Comprehensive Plan, that comprehensive plan had the idea in it of an implementation entity, a key concept, the idea that this implementation entity could help be part of providing the flexibility, the accountability, and the resources that would be necessary to achieve this incredibly ambitious idea.
