All right, good evening. I'm gonna call to order the October ninth, twenty twenty five meeting of the Planning Commission's policy plan committee. I welcome our guests from uh I know we have the environmental quality advisory council. Com uh oh c yeah, council, right? Yeah. Tree commission? Do we have the tree commission represented? No? Okay. Um Transportation Advisory Commission's not here. Uh I think we will be. Uh Trails, Sidewalk, Bikeways? Okay. Good. So welcome to you all and thank you for being here. Welcome to staff, uh, planning commissioners and the public who are attending here in the conference room or watching On channel sixteen. Uh let me start off with the minutes of our June fifth meeting. May I have a motion to approve the June fifth, twenty twenty-five minutes?
So moved. It's been moved by Commissioner Sargent, seconded by Commissioner Bennett. Any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying aye. Aye. Opposed? Abstain? Okay, those minutes are approved. Um So our purpose this evening is to preview preview the presentation staff will make at next week's public hearing. on the draft revised policy plan of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan And to give our guests uh an opportunity to share their current assessment of the draft. And of course for the planning commissioners to do the same and also to ask questions and engage in uh discussion as we may be inclined to do. Uh but before I turn the microphone over to staff for briefing. Let me start by offering a few thoughts and laying out the schedule for the next few weeks.
I want to compliment Corrine Bebec as the project manager for delivering a high quality product within a timeframe that I believe will allow the Planning Commission to meet the expectations of the board. that the first of two phases of the policy plan be delivered by the end of this year. Um so kudos to Korean for her leadership. And of course Korean had outstanding support. From her management, Kelly Atkinson in particular. uh and from staff throughout the county organization as represented here at the table. Um our hats go off to each and all of you for your excellent work product and that we are confident not only captures your best professional judgment but is best in class. Kudos too to the public, the boards, authorities and commissions.
Most significantly those who are with us tonight who made valuable and significant inputs into the process. And thank you, Commissioners, for your own active participation uh and set of contributions. And my personal thanks to Commissioner Sargent for his key support as our Vice Chair. With this acknowledgement of everyone's contribution, we now have the job of bringing this product home. This is a policy document. Uh perhaps it goes without saying, but the work of the product is now out of staff's hands. And in the hands of policy makers. As such, changes are likely based on feedback and insights the Planning Commission hears from an array an array of stakeholders, most significantly at next week's public hearing, and b based on our own best judgment.
Of course we'll need staff to support the Commission during the process of this this final phase. Um and then we'll hand it off to the board who will exercise their decision-making prerogative after hearing from their own set of stakeholders. And I'm confident the staff will be consulted in depth uh during the board's deliberations as well. So that's kind of introductory opening remarks. Let me address the path forward. Um the current plan w is to have the public hearing next uh Wednesday, the fifteenth. Uh and then uh it was intended that the uh uh the uh uh commission, I mean so the board would have its public hearing on uh November eighteenth. I've s as I've indicated to everyone, I believe everyone, uh the it was my intent to recommend to the commission that we defer the decision uh from the public hearing next week for at least a couple weeks.
And I'm now suggest going to suggest three weeks, and I'll explain the logic there. Um the Uh and and as a consequence of uh this deferral that I'm going to suggest to the Commission, uh the I've had consulted with the Chairman's Office and the uh the Chair of the Land Use Policy Review Committee with regard to um a an interest of uh deferring their consideration for a
