All right. Good afternoon, everyone. It is two o'clock on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024. Please join me for a moment of silence.
Thank you. All rise if you are able for the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
All right, we are on to our first agenda item, and that is 3A, to approve the minutes for March 19, 2024. Can I have a motion? So moved, Madam Chair.

Thank you so very much. We are now on to our commendations and proclamations. We have four proclamations. One is to name April 2024 the month of the military child, and I'll be doing that with Supervisor Gordy. Another is to proclaim April 2024 Arab American Heritage Month. The third is to proclaim April 14th through 20th Public Safety Telecommunications Week. And then the final one is to proclaim April 21st to 27th Crime Victims Rights Week. So I will be moving down to the podium. We are going to start with the month of the military child.

All right, if we have any representatives here. And I'll turn the mic over to you, Supervisor Gordy.
First of all, we are joined by Ms. Evan Freeman James from Our Military Kids. Our Military Kids is a national 501c3 nonprofit offering extracurricular activity grants to children and teens of deployed National Guard, Reserve, or post-911 combat wounded, ill, or injured veterans in treatment. Our Military Kids activity grants build the children's self-confidence, enhance family wellness, and strengthen the shared sense of community. Since 2004, our military kids has proudly provided more than 88,000 activity scholarships worth $32 million to children and teens in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and District of Columbia. And I'm very proud to say that my daughter Sarah was one of the recipients. of one of their scholarships in 2009 while I was deployed to Baghdad.
And we're also joined by Mr. Joe Gilkerson, our Director of Human Resources, but he's also the Staff Director for our Veterans Commission. So come on down, Joe. Thank you. All right, and I'll read the proclamation. Proclamation. says, whereas since 1986, the department of defense has recognized military children during the month of April because of their service, uh, commitment and service to supporting the mission of the armed services. It is essential to honor and celebrate our military's youngest heroes. And whereas Prince William County is home to military service members and their families, stationed in the county at Marine Corps Base Quantico and surrounding installations in the National Capital Region, with Prince William County Public Schools educating over 8,000 school-age military-connected students.
And whereas the month of the military child is an opportunity to remember children's roles in strengthening the military family and recognize the unique challenges military children face daily with courage and dignity beyond their years. And whereas whether it's enduring deployments, reintegrating into new states and countries, caring for wounded warrior parents, or coping with the loss of a fallen parent, the military child remains resilient, strong, and exemplifies a fantastic capacity to adapt. And whereas military children are a source of pride and honor, the month of the military child allows us to recognize the sacrifices and essential contributions made by them in support of their parents, and thus the nation.
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Prince William Board of County Supervisors hereby proclaims April 2024 as the month of the military child. And I'd like to also point out that one of our supervisors is a military child, Supervisor Bob Weir, and we also have two military parents, Supervisor Bailey and Supervisor Vega. Thank you for your, Victor, angry, sorry. Thank you for both your military service and for your children's service.
