I see a sea of red. Um, we are now on to public comment time for uh today. So I'm awaiting the list. For those of you who have not spoken before, I will call you up. You will go to the back. You have three minutes to speak, and I would ask that you please look on the um television is a timer. And when you get up there, please state your name clearly, um and where you generally reside. Good evening more Benimer members. I'm speaking on behalf of the Horn Baker Industrial Park. So would would I have the additional two minutes along with the five? This is
uh not a public hearing, so you got your three minutes. And I asked folks to sit down 'cause fire marshal, come on fire. Need everyone to take a seat if you're not speaking.
Okay. My name's Barry Braden. Uh We built the Hornbaker Industrial Park over off of Hornbaker Road and and University in two thousand. And I'd like to speak basically against the proposed tax rate that that we're looking to implement now because the the data centers in the county, which I'm all for, They have driven our tax assessments through the roof. We have a a ten acre heavy industrial lot at Hornbaker. The tax assessment has gone up eight million dollars in the last five years. The tax itself has gone up two hundred percent. We're at a point now that We're gonna probably have to wind up selling this to a data center. We currently have forty eight tenants that are renting from us in this heavy industrial zoned area just for storage of cars from tow companies and other commercial businesses.
With with those businesses, we have approximately a thousand employees that are going to wind up having to leave the county. And I know that the tax rate's pretty much set in stone, but I'm hoping that somebody will at at least think about this tonight because the tax rate itself, even with the one and a half cent. decrease the taxes on that one lot alone. have gone up another ten thousand dollars this year. The assessment jumped another four hundred thousand dollars on one gravel lot. A flat lot. Fence around it, some individual fencing, no buildings, no nothing, nine million dollars now. So we we've got to do something with this. I is it worth that? It's worth that to a data center, but it's not worth that for heavy industrial.
So I I'm hoping that that somebody will at least look at what it's doing to the businesses here, not only the residents, but you know, the business as well. And again, I I'm for the data centers. I'm I'm for any business in the county. Been been a member of the commercial development committee for twenty five years. So add that to all the rest of the taxes that we have and you know w we're almost taxed out of the county. Thank you for your time.

Good evening, Ben Baldwin from Coles. Uh when I look at this budget and hear about the actions of the Democrat majority on this board, I'm often reminded of the parable of the scorpion and the frog. Once again, the majority has gone through all this pageantry to say how they're cutting real estate taxes while at the same time our real estate assessments, as you've just heard, continue to go up dramatically. Because of this shell game, that means the average real estate tax for residents is actually going up by two hundred and seventy three dollars.
