I didn't want to be an intern.

I wanted to get a real job on a committee.

So I basically canvassed Capitol Hill for six months.

I would go park at the visitor parking, going through the visitor entrance.

put on my blue blazer and just walk around cap, like walk around the Capitol building, trying to meet people, just walking into meetings and walking into events.

And I did that for six months, got a bunch of, you know, meet people and be like, yeah, come by my office tomorrow.

You seem like a sharp kid.

And I did that until there was a job opening on the house science committee interviewed there.

Um, then, uh, use some, you know, connections through my uncle to get my way to one of the members.

Went and met with him and it was this guy, Dana Rohrabacher, one of the coolest dudes on Capitol Hill.

He's one of the original libertarians and he loved me and he helped me get the job.

So I started on the house science committee, started as a staff assistant, which is, you know, like a step above intern, but it's a real job.

And the first day I was putting mail on the desk for the chief of staff,

And there was no one there.

And I was like, who's, you know, who works here?

And he said, oh, he just got promoted to press secretary.

And so I was like, well, who's got that job?

And they said, well, it's open.

So I was like, can I apply for that?

And so the first day I applied for the special assistant chief of staff, got the job.
