They launched it months ago into forced labor practices in all these different countries.
So it'd be quite easy for them to conclude that investigation and impose tariffs of between 10 and 12 percent on a lot of countries by the end of the week.
So that would effectively roll over 10% tariffs on a lot of countries and create some continuity.
But aside from that, we've had a couple of curveballs, including when the administration announced that it would use another quite novel trade law to impose really quite high tariffs of 50% on about $20 billion worth of Canadian goods.
They'd potentially need to give their customs and border officials some time to implement the tariffs.
But they have previously given them really not very much time at all to deal with this stuff.
So they really could leave it till quite late this week if they wanted.
There has been growing concern from U.S.
officials in Washington that other countries, mainly China, have been taking advantage of the deal.
Well, the USMCA is a massive trade deal between the US and two of its top three largest trading partners, Mexico and Canada.
It was struck by Donald Trump in 2020, and it covers the vast majority of all trade between the three countries.
So it slashes tariffs on things like meat, food, car parts, medicines.
So there are many, many businesses that take advantage of this deal.
There has been growing concern from US officials in Washington that other countries, mainly China, have been taking advantage of the deal to build up manufacturing capacity in Canada and Mexico and using the preferential tariff terms to export Chinese goods into the US at lower tariff rates.
This is particularly a problem in the auto industry.
Car parts cross the border between Mexico and the U.S.
and Canada many, many times in the making of one car.
So U.S.
officials have started to notice that companies like BYD, which is a big Chinese car manufacturer, have had a growing presence in Mexico and have started taking part in this supply chain.
And they're not happy with that.
