I exercise like a mad woman.
I took up running, even though I've never run before.
I took up Bikram yoga.
I'm claustrophobic, but I did it because I wanted to challenge myself to be uncomfortable.
I'm not a very good swimmer and ocean depths petrify me, so I would jump off piers and into the ocean.
So I started to what I call it getting match fit.
I started to do all of the things that make my body fit.
that trigger a fight or flight response because I was constantly in fight or flight.
My body was like the cortisol levels were so high.
You just feel like you're under attack constantly.
It gave me endorphins, but it also made me navigate discomfort more.
Because some people go, oh, Bikram Yoga sounds lovely.
Well, not if you're claustrophobic and prone to anxiety.
It was very challenging, but ultimately good for me.
And so I just got, God, I'm going to sound like such a fitspo wanker, but I got comfortable being uncomfortable.
And so they're the sorts of things that were like really, really helpful.
It is so hard to determine what kind of world they're going to have to navigate because there are so many unprecedented, horrible things to choose from, whether it's creeping authoritarianism, climate destruction, take your pick, the rise of AI.
I just want whatever they encounter or confront, whether it is just or fair or not, to be
have the confidence and the conviction to do what is right, even if it is the unpopular thing or the more expensive thing or the harder thing.
Because I think what the world requires now is more of us to do that.
