And I do love, if there's anybody else who loves pretty expensive stationery, I love paper planners so much.

Yes, friends right there.

And I remember getting this like especially beautiful one and it had all these places in the beginning to write out your goals for the year.

So there were categories like home and health and relationships.

I was having so much fun imagining what I wanted the year to hold for me.

And the last category was finances.

And I didn't even write anything down.

I just felt like I didn't trust myself enough.

Like I'd already failed so many times.

I didn't want to mess up this beautiful notebook by writing a goal down that like never would come true.

So when we were in our early 30s, Jeremy got a new job that sent him overseas for weeks and months at a time.

And it was great for his career, but it was a lot.

It was a lot of responsibility, a lot of new things that he was learning.

And he was still doing all the money management.

And I thought to myself, like,

I should be a good partner.

I can do this.

How hard can it be?

And that brings us back to the big, ugly, beige couch where I was sitting.

And that very first month that he was gone, I missed a bill, and they charged a late fee.
