Right?
And humans are extremely reliable in that way, especially if a monk's involved, right?
Although I don't see any monk in the history here.
Don't say it.
We start to experiment a little bit.
So enter a guy by the name of Samuel L. Root.
Now, if you hang out in certain corners of the Internet, you'll hear a story about root beer being invented by this guy with a last name Root, who supposedly creates this magical drink and gives it his name.
However, that is simply not the case, Jules, because there is no evidence.
Other than rumor that points it that way.
What we do have evidence for is Charles Elmer Hires, who was a Philadelphia pharmacist from the 19th century.
So in 1876, he is, you know, the United States is showing off and we've got the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia.
And so think kind of World's Fair atmosphere, right?
You've got steam engines, new technologies, people are shoulder to shoulder, noises everywhere.
And in the middle of all that, you've got this pharmacist with a big idea, some roots in a marketing problem, basically, right?
Hires has been selling what he calls root tea.
What were you going to say?
Yeah.
He's like, come try my root tea over here.
Root tea.
Yeah.
