I kept putting one foot in front of the other, focusing on the next loop, focusing on the next point 2.5 miles.
And then thankfully, by mile 40, my stomach started to come back round again.
And I was able to eat.
So I fueled my body.
I kept it super simple.
I just went almond butter for the next 60 miles or so, and just kept fueling my body with as much almond butter as I could.
It was giving me the fats I needed.
I stuck with that, my stomach wasn't getting upset from it, and I just kind of powered on through with that.
So, over the space of the next 40 miles from mile 40 to mile 80, I was actually making really good time.
And looking back on my splits, so my race splits, how long it took, uh 2.5 mile loop was taking me between 25 and 30 minutes, and my mile one.
And mile 50 loop were nearly the same.
Um, so I surprised myself with how well I was feeling in terms of the run, taking out the stomach discomfort, my actual speed and training was going really well, and my body was at a very good shape at mile fifty.
And then for the next 30 miles from m to mile 80, I was going really, really strong.
My legs felt good, my energy was okay, I was starting to get a little bit tired.
So I popped a caffeine pill.
One of the tips that I use, or one of the tools that I use, apologies, is I don't take any caffeine for several days before race.
So Tuesday, the week before, was the last time I'd taken caffeine.
So Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then Saturday night, I hadn't taken any caffeine, any stimulants, and then 50 miles in, I took a caffeine tap.
To try and stay awake.
One of the reasons I made such good time was on these kinds of events, a lot of athletes will sleep.
