I'll be working for another 20, 30, 40 years.
This particular episode –
will pass and you'll probably go through plenty of other episodes, but you've got time on your side.
So you have enough time to be able to ride out this kind of volatility.
And another message we always give people is that if you are prepared to ride out this sort of volatility, if you're prepared, quite frankly, to put up with some of the crap that share markets throw at you every now and again, the reward for that is a better long-term outcome.
You ultimately get rewarded for taking risk.
You ultimately get rewarded if you're able to tolerate volatility.
Yeah.
However, what if you're at a different phase of life?
What if you are approaching retirement?
Let's say you're in your 50s or your early 60s.
Now, those people are likely to become more concerned about this sort of market volatility.
Now, if you are already invested reasonably conservatively, if you're not losing sleep at night, and that's always a good test, if you're thinking, yeah, my balance has gone down a little bit, but because I'm reasonably conservatively invested, I'm not 100% exposed to share markets, I've got some other more defensive assets there, this is not too much of a big deal for me.
I'm prepared to ride this out because the impact has been relatively minor.
But if you are at that phase of life and you're thinking, gee, this is putting a massive dent into my retirement savings, am I taking too much risk?
Am I invested properly for my phase of life and for my appetite for risk?
That's when you maybe need to have a look.
But before you do, get some advice.
