And so I started yo-yoing and I just found it fascinating.

Wonderful and absorptive and playful and just the sheer joy of the momentum of thing was wonderful.

And this is a book justifying saying that that is enough, right?

That playfulness, that just the sheer rich joy of being an interesting doing is enough.

And I, when I was at dinner parties and people would be like, oh, what are you doing?

I'm like, I'm yo-yoing.

And they're like, why are you doing that?

And I would say things like, well, it really relaxes me.

So it helps me write more and it de-stresses me so I can write more.

And I think even then, that's how deeply we've ingested the mindset that in the middle of writing a book about how we should accept that play is the end of the line, that this is the most important thing, I found myself needing to justify

I mean, ironically, I found myself needing to justify my newfound love of a form of play by saying it helped me get back to work and write more pages in my book justifying the value of play.

Because I think part of the theory I have about measurement is that what measurement is doing is it's a pre-made system of easy justification.

It's no surprise, this thing we're talking about, that's no surprise because what metrics are, are things designed to quickly and easily justify ourselves in public.

And this is, I mean, so I think...

The thing that I've been on, and I'm super excited because I feel like you're touching on the raw, bleeding heart of the thing I care the most about, and it's the hardest to say,

I mean, I think a lot of us know, oh, the measurement doesn't capture everything.

There's more.

We feel there's more.

But I wanted to know why.
