I'm a professor.

I helped found the Center for Digital Ethics at Georgetown.

And I'm on the contributor staff of the New Yorker.

So I'm writing this highbrow and academic work.

But in my books, I like to center them on advice.

I've been writing books professionally since I was 21 years old.

And I really love the genre that has concrete advice.

But these are two different worlds.

So sometimes what will happen is these worlds will overlap.

So like a reviewer will come in who would never normally review a book that has advice, but they will review it because, oh, I know Cal from like the New Yorker or whatever.

And then they'll just be aghast.

He's telling people what to do.

How could you give people advice?

How do you know that's the right thing to do?

It's a complete code switch mismatch.

So there's a lot of that coming on of like...

This isn't a general nonfiction book that's just doing criticism about how capitalism functions.

So I get a lot of that now because I exist in both worlds.

And my only response to that is, actually, I think more people should be thinking about giving advice.

I think it's important.
