they're made.
And this is a great way to make yourself a better listener is by trying to seem like you're a better listener.
I mean, I think it boils down to, there's one general thing that I would suggest, and then three specific things that you can do.
Because in this day and age where there's so much social media and distractions, and then now in the workplace, you have remote work and hybrid work, where conversations, it can become increasingly difficult to just pay attention.
And so I think it just boils down to being in the moment, where there's all these other distractions.
If you want to be a good listener...
Start by just being in the moment and focusing on what the person you're talking to is saying.
And so if you can do that, like you'll already be a massive leap towards being a better listener.
Otherwise, there's three specific things that you can do that you can practice.
Number one, I've already mentioned it previously, is to repeat back what you're hearing.
Summarize what they're saying, even if it's like after they've spent like five minutes talking.
Regurgitate back like, okay, here's what I'm hearing what you said, David.
You just did a fantastic job at that.
That is exactly spot on.
A plus example.
If you're in my class, that will be a 100% there.
All right.
And the last two?
Number two, ask follow-up questions.
Because when someone's talking, they're talking for a reason.
