We do have families that don't trust us at first because these children have very complex needs.

Their medication can change within...

a day and obviously our nurses are absolutely wonderful and highly trained and very good at that but as a parent you don't want to let your let your child go and trust somebody who you might not have met before or met very briefly and but we do find in the similar case to yours that they come for a night and plan to say maybe two or three and then go oh actually I am in the way and

their kids asking them to leave.

Because we do just take such good care of them.

But you're right, it's not just babysitting with a seriously or terminally ill child.

You can't always rely on grandparents, on friends and things like that.

So that's where we can support.

And it is for parents to go see Red Room or to go on holiday themselves.

But there is emergency respite if...

a parent needs to go in for an operation that's completely unplanned.

These sort of scenarios you don't really think of unless you're put in this situation.

So we would step in there because you obviously can't just leave that child with anyone.

So it's that emergency respite as well that's really important and we can't do any of it without trust.

And it is always lovely to hear a family talk about how much they trust us.

And how the connections that they make with our staff as well.
