But etiquette experts tell me that bigger than what the apps offer, it's that like society doesn't have a formal code of conduct for how we deal with money requests.

There's, again, people who say, hey, there's an honor system.

I pay for you today.

You get me the next time.

And then there's a growing number of people who say, hey, I just want to pay my way.

I don't want to be stuck here.

And so I think that's where some of the friction is happening.
