I'm not talking about just a gut feel or having a knee-jerk reaction.
I'm talking about this
So tension that we feel when we think we should do something else and somebody is expecting us to go a particular way.
And we really need to think about that and acknowledge that and think about what value of mine is being compromised.
Why is it that I feel this tension?
So what can someone do if they're starting to feel that way?
Let's say, you know, somebody's selling you something like, and you use an example of, you know, the financial advisor.
What suggestion would you have for our listeners if you're in a situation like that?
Well, I was in a situation like that with my financial advisor that was telling me to invest in this fund and also had disclosed a conflict of interest.
And I felt the tension.
I felt insinuation anxiety.
And what happened to me was quite lucky in that I was at the hospital and my beeper went off and I could make an excuse to leave.
But that is what I actually call the power of the pause.
If you can get some physical distance,
that is the best thing.
So you can think about it when you're not directly in front of the person that is asking you to do something.
That tension tends to decrease a little bit or you can actually think about it.
What is it that you really want to do?
What values might it compromise with you?
So having that distance, physical distance is great.
