And that you actually listen to what they say and take action on it so it's effective.
And you can do that in numerous ways by rewarding it.
I know one leader, when he was in a meeting,
He said something to the effect of like, are we all in agreement?
Everybody said yes.
And he was like, well, let's give it two weeks then because we want some disagreement.
Having disagreement actually improves the quality of decisions.
You don't actually want a very compliant workforce because you're going to...
remove innovation, creativity, you're going to have more dissatisfaction, less retention.
So you want to create this environment by making it safe and effective and modelling defiance too, to your stakeholders, to your seniors if you have them.
So modelling that aspect of values-based defiance is really important.
One of the things I always did was actually we were just talking about it last week.
I still have Zoom calls with my former leadership team at Sprint, for example.
and at the at our ops team meetings on a particular issue i just go around the table and i wouldn't express my opinion i'd get everybody's until the end because i found even though i thought that people could disagree with me be open with me and they felt they could as well there's no question that if you speak first and they know what your point of view is they're more likely
I think to agree with you and it's kind of putting your thumb on the scale a little bit.

If I really want to improve my decision making, I do the same.
