Ooh, this one's deep.
So many of us have this invisible internal economy, and rest is a reward for sufficient productivity.
Rest becomes something that you earn, it's not something that you need.
And the problem with this is that our threshold keeps moving.
If you are a person with a boatload of capacity, which many of us are, that means I once had a dean sit down with me and she was like, I cannot believe your capacity.
I cannot believe how much you take on and you're still in a good mood and you're bouncy.
And I thought about that and I was like, I do have a really big capacity, which also means if you are waiting for your capacity to run out before you get anything, any more nourishment, that's bananas because you've built up this wild capacity by doing all the things that you've been doing for so long.
It was so frustrating for me as an adult when I realized how many of our tasks are like sys offician, right?
It's it's pushing the rock.
up the hill at falling back down and you have to do it again.
And I remember going through a mourning period of realizing that the inbox is always gonna be full, the task, the to-do list is never gonna be done.
Because what I wanted so badly is to say, hey, once I've checked off all the boxes, once I've done all the things, then I get a rest.
Because there is a period in your life where you can kind of do that.
I remember going hard in college, like hard in college.
And then summers would hit and
And I would have my crap job and I would go to it, but then I would just be a sloth.
because I could get to a place where like most everything was cross-off.
But as an adult, that ha that doesn't happen.
And we threw this like mourning period around that because i it just felt so overwhelming to go like it's never gonna end.
But then there is also this relief in this.
