And I think it's very hard right now to do the work because there are so many headwinds pushing back.
For those of us who want to say the fact that you are conservative or you are liberal or whatever the label is, we should be able to find a way to talk to each other and to respect each other and respect.

And when that doesn't happen, then it is hard for us to do the work because the incentives, whether it's social media, whether it's politics, whether it's the economy, much of that is pushing back against the necessary collective work that we need to do in this country.

When you think about Fannie Lou Hamer, Mrs. Hamer walked those dirt roads in rural Mississippi carrying the flag.
She was beaten, spat on, disrespected in all sorts of ways, but she would not let go of that flag.
When you think about James Baldwin, a black gay man.
My literary hero.
My hero as well.
