They're not trying to create prosperity in our sense.
They're trying to create some form of what they believe is resilience.
and their whole selling point to their grassroots base.
And the Iranian regime does have a grassroots base.
Domestically, it's unclear what percentage of the population that accounts for.
We're talking about a totalitarian system, so it's hard to say how many Iranians oppose the regime, how many Iranians support it.
But
to their significant grassroots base their whole thing is we can withstand whatever pressure the united states brings to bear upon us we are willing to grit our teeth from suffering into economic hardship and come out through the other end with america acceding to our demands so you know the economic hardship and we see this by the way this narrative paralleled throughout the resistance axis right all these militias that that orbit around iran say the same thing but
their ability to withstand the economic hardship the economic hardship itself proves the narrative it proves the ideology um and it proves the strength and resilience of this regime if iran is able to grade its teeth through that and get through the other end and extract conceptions from the united states so you know you have these two things operating in parallel crack down on dissenters uh be able to sort of three things rather stretch a dollar as much as possible
And the pain and punishment itself through your grassroots supporters flipping that and, you know, portraying that as, well, this proves our ideology and this proves the effectiveness of what we're doing in our regime.
Look, I mean, my starting point in dealing with the entire region is kind of the old adage that every man in this village is a liar.
Everyone in the region has an interest in kind of exaggerating their side.
So I take a lot of these numbers with a grain of salt.
And I know that the Iranian opposition has an interest in playing up the numbers.
And I know the Iranian regime has an interest in downplaying the numbers.
I think the numbers, though, are secondary to the brutality of
uh that the iranian regime is willing to uh use against its people to silence dissent and whether it killed you know if you look at the mass amini protest started with the murder of one woman and that's a life that's the you know if i if i may be a little religious here that's the image of god that's that's you know that's a whole world that's snuffed out uh you know uh so and
And then that led to a brutal crackdown.
But even with the killing of one person in that brutal fashion, you're demonstrating, you're revealing, you're tipping your hand about the brutality of this regime and how little it values human life.
So I think the numbers are secondary to the fact, you know, if they kill 10 people in a particularly brutal fashion...
