First of all, I thought Ben should have been an Ashes winning captain two years before that.
It was a great series.
You guys, Aussies, held on to the Ashes, but there were chances...
to win the Ashes.
I mean, England will look back at Old Trafford where it rained for a day at the end when they were in a great position.
Old Trafford Ashes was a brilliant pitch.
Getting more wickets on that pitch could have been tough, but there were other mistakes that cost them in that series.
So,
The last summer stroke winter was Stokes' big chance where, let's face it, we all thought Australia was vulnerable.
Missing some of the best bowlers at the start of the series, a batting line-up that looked slightly weak and fragile.
And some inept batting on day two at Perth gave Australia half a chance.
Travis Head gave Australia the full chance.
The whole psychology of that tour changed within, what, three hours on that second day at Perth.
Brisbane then made it stronger from the home side's point of view.
And from then you got you got no way back.
So when that was Stokes' big opportunity to do something really special, because
Any of us who've been down to Australia and won the ashes know just how special that is and also how tough it is.
So if you have even half a chance to do it, you've got to take it.
And the fact that they blew it, the fact that over the course of that tour, what looked like a rock solid relationship between McCullum and Stokes started to look a bit shaky.
You know, there were things coming out of the rooms which suggested they weren't quite seeing eye to eye.
