This is an increasingly fragmented political system.
If you go back to the 80s and 90s, I tried to run these numbers last night.
There's this calc you can do called the effective number of parties.
And there was only really three parties.
It was Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, Labour.
You come into the 90s, you get the PDs, you get the Greens, you get smaller left-wing parties coming along.
And then the 08 crisis gave us Sinn Féin as a big rise.
But now we have Sock Dems.
Now we've got AIM2.
Now we've got... We've increasingly just, like, there's every flavour of possible vote.
And if you look at a country like the Netherlands, I've said for a while now that Ireland, our system, is going Dutch, that we're going to end up with no party with more than 20% of the vote.
You're going to have to get three, four party coalitions together.
That becomes...
In a way, it's good people, everyone's vote can kind of get their say into a coalition.
Exactly.
Exactly, yeah, yeah.
And even, you know, some people might look at the three-day wait for abortion that we just did, that people won't even know because of the party positions.
It then depends on the individual TD positions about how people vote.
So it becomes good in voter choice, but then hard to know for sure exactly what you're getting through your vote.
