Good morning. You're very welcome to the show. Our panel is here now ready to tell you everything you need to know about the week just gone. But we'll have a look at the front pages first. So there's no general agreement on big stories. There's a wide variety of stories on the front pages. The Irish Mail on Sunday is leading with Donaldson, Jeffrey Donaldson, taught sex ed to children. Pedophile gave Sunday school advice on urges. including advising them to place a Bible between them in a car to resist temptation. And you will be aware if you've been reading the papers, there's a lot of reporting about various other aspects of Jeffrey Donaldson's life since that court case ended. The Sunday Independent is leading with miscarriage leave to be introduced in coalition plan.
Five days paid leave would also cover abortions. The Business Post is leading with avalanche of change. Industry leaders demand urgent AI actions. So senior industry leaders warned ministers and top officials at a high power behind closed doors meeting that government plans to develop an AI skills action plan for the economy were inadequate. So the government was planning to develop a blueprint over one to two years. The industry leaders are saying you need to develop a blueprint in between 12 and 24 weeks. Other suggestions, they're scrapping for your undergraduate degrees in favour of two year courses. So interesting stuff there. The world is changing. The Sunday Times is leading with next Kinnehan Kingpin spotted playing paddle.
Which front-page stories set the agenda this Sunday and who’s on the panel?
Accountant Ian Dixon tipped to be new cartel frontman. We'll come back to that in a minute. And the Mirror and the Sun are leading with... As The Mirror puts it, Shamrock Rovers star Pico Lopez is facing the match of his life after his national team, Cape Verde, made it to the World Cup knockout stages. The Crumlinborn player will now face champions Argentina and their superstar forward Lionel Messi in Miami on Friday. And Hand of Verde is the headline on The Mirror. And Date with Mestony is the headline on The Sun. And then The Sunday World is leading with that country music star Nathan Carter revealed a vulnerable fan was tricked into handing over more than 80,000 euros to online scammers posing as him.
OK, our panel this morning, Liz Carlin is publisher of The Briefing.ie. David W. Higgins is an economist. Mick Clifford is a special correspondent at the Irish Examiner and Brigid Laughan is an emeritus professor at the European University Institute. Good morning, everyone. Good morning. Mick, before we get into the kind of issues of the day, John Mooney in the Sunday Times has been doing fantastic reporting on various the Kinnahan creeps down in Dubai, the lives they're living down there and everything. And today he is telling us about this guy, Ian Dixon, and how he's living in Dubai.
Yeah, and as you say, John Mooney, I worked with him years ago. He's a tenacious reporter and he's done some great work on this. The Sunday Times have done this with Bellingcat, their UK investigation outfit.
And I think Bellingcat very much verify all the stuff and geolocation. Absolutely.
And as you described, open source journalism, a lot of this is. So what you're talking about is acquiring images and information that's actually in the public domain in one form or another and collating the whole thing. Serious operation altogether. In doing that, they're highlighting the lifestyle of this man, Ian Dixon. He's now, they're saying, basically the man most likely to take over the reins of the Kinahan cartel. Now that Daniel Kinahan is locked up in Dubai awaiting extradition, Sean McGovern, who had been his right-hand man, was sentenced in the special criminal court here a few weeks ago to 24 years in prison. He seems to be the man now that's taking over. And they've got... images of him playing paddle in a major.
He played actually in, it sounds like, an international tournament in this luxury enclave they're living in in Dubai.
