That's a really good question.
I suppose there are some risk factors, so anything where you're likely to disassociate, but things like intimate partner violence, stressful situations, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, those sorts of things can predispose.
But it can just happen to ordinary, run-of-the-mill, boring, normal people.

Um, so your fertility, so your ability to get pregnant is not affected um by having an abortion or a termination of pregnancy?
There is a theoretical risk if someone has a large number of late term abortions, so that's um at a more advanced gestation, so generally in the second trimester, then there's a theoretical risk that it can affect the function of the cervix, which acts to hold a pregnancy in.
there's not good data around um what that number is and the majority of abortions that are done in Australia are done in the first trimester.
So in general that's not something that people who are having abortions need to worry about.
Um, I I don't know, but I um I certainly am aware that there's quite a bit of um anti abortion sentiment, especially in the um in the United States and a lot of um
things that are published under the guise of medical literature about abortion that are often misinformation.
And so I would be suspicious of that misinformation coming from that source.
That said, um I certainly encourage um people who have had an abortion to really look hard at their contraceptive situation because I think in general most people would say it's easier
um on themselves to have a have a good contraceptive and avoid pregnancy if they can.
Um, so I suppose it it depends a little bit on uh where someone's at in their life, what anatomy they've got, what anatomy they don't have.
um how they're using their anatomy and all of those things can um have different impacts on their health.
Um and so I suppose in my role as a doctor it's to filter out what's relevant and what's not relevant.
Um and I think Grace is exactly right.
