A lot of um medical issues are completely irrelevant to someone's gender.

Um uh

Interestingly enough, I suppose in gynecology a lot of areas actually gender is is relevant or certainly anatomy is relevant.

Um and um and we all know that your your gender and your anatomy aren't necessarily aligned.

Um and so from my point of view when I've got someone sitting in front of me, my first question is

what what's the issue, what do you want me to do for you?

And then my second question is, okay, well how can we then then sort that out?

And um I suppose for the second question it is often relatively relevant what anatomy they've got.

So, um, for example, we were talking about endometriosis earlier.

Um, in general you need to have a uterus to have endometriosis or have had a uterus at some stage.

Um so people who um don't have uteruses at all um don't get endometriosis.

Um and so that's where that is is relevant, whether or not the uterus is there or was there.

Um so I suppose I'm in a

a relatively I suppose privileged position where um from my point of view often I do need to talk to people about what anatomy they've got, um, what it's doing, what what hormones they've been taking, that sort of thing.

So from my point of view a lot of it is actually quite relevant.

Um but I think

Um, because I'm in that privileged position where I do need to have those conversations with people, it's really important to have it in a way that doesn't make people feel bad or feel judged or um feel that I have concerns about um about their anatomy and their gender um uh not necessarily aligning in the way they do for a lot of people.

Um I think that's the onus is really on the on the health professional in that situation to ask the questions in a way that is non-judgmental and it is um going to allow people to feel comfortable to answer them.
