You look at certain cellular markers that are easy to detect by doing a simple blood test.
That's a cheaper way of looking at a proxy for ageing than, let's say, doing biopsies of every single organ and having a look at biological changes within each organ.
So it does look like chronic exposure to high levels of the hormone cortisol definitely can promote some forms of ageing.
Having said all of which, you do see some people who've gone through a lot and they're totally fine.
A lot of my girlfriends have got parents who are, let's say, Holocaust survivors and they went through five years of unspeakable horror and they're into their 90s and 100s and still, you know, kicking around doing really beautifully.
And this is something that I think the Little Things podcast has just highlighted so beautifully is that stress is not one thing for every single person.
Different people have different experiences of stressful environments, stressful events in their lives.
We respond differently to it.
And there's not a one size fits all biological response to stress.
And there's not a one size fits all emotional response to stress.
You see some people just, they're kind of those beanbag people, you know, nothing really gets them too up, too down.
They might not be that efficient.
They might not get too much done, but they're sort of fairly cool.
I'm definitely not that person.
I'm like driven.
So I'm riding every wave, right?
And so I don't know that I'd want to live my life without stress because the stress is kind of what brings the best out of me.
I sometimes find that it's what allows me to achieve different things, pushes me to the next level.
I don't necessarily want to be stress-free.
And I think to say that stress is the enemy is too simplistic.
