Yes.
So this is abnormal scar tissue that forms around the breast implant, and it can be painful ultimately, and it definitely doesn't look great.
It looks like a tight, hard implant.
We want a soft breast implant.
And so that is one of the reasons why we started going behind the muscle was we knew that the rates of capsular contracture were lower, and it would help cover the irregularities of these earlier implants.
So outside of the United States where they have had access to newer technology, 80% of breast augmentations are performed in front of the muscle.
In the U.S., that statistic is flipped and 80% are performed behind.
Now that's starting to shift now that we have some new technology that we can place in front and not have some of these problems that we've had before.
But it's going to be interesting to see how that shakes out as time goes on.
Is it behind the muscle?
No, in front.
In front of the muscle.
They've had access to many more implants than we've had in the United States, some of which have come and gone.
You know, the FDA is conservative when it comes to breast implants here.
And that has saved us from utilizing some implants that didn't turn out to be so great.
But these newer implants do not have these rates of capsular contracture.
And so you can place them in a place that's a little bit more anatomic and then spares the muscle.
So that's great for women who are active.
