that interest or that knowledge.
But um uh knowing how to develop good sleep habits and which uh supplements and which medications can be helpful and how to evaluate them is really important.
And again, not missing someone with a primary sleep disorder like obstructive sleep apnea.
or restless legs or restless sleep.
Um I think there's much more knowledge now that um iron plays a big role in sleep.
And uh it just seems that so many people have low iron.
And it's um pretty easy to assess that and we have we have treatments for that.
And but that should be part and parcel of the holistic treatment of ADHD is making sure that you're not missing someone that um is anemic or has low iron or has inadequate sleep and that's contributing to their their difficulties.
Well, um, if we're talking about children, uh I guess my belief is the pediatrician is the place to start.
Um and they can kind of screen um uh and determine is this someone that should go to a sleep medicine specialist and have a sleep study, especially if uh if there's a suspicion of sleep apnea.
Uh or is this a um a behavioral sleep problem?
Uh they have difficulty s settling at night, are they still coming into the parents' room?
And the parents have developed a whole set of rituals to do to to try to get them to sleep.
Um and so uh the pediatricians can give kind of first level advice and then refer to those subspecialists.
But that that's what I I would recommend.
And then for adults, it would be your primary care physician.
And they would do, you know, lab they would do blood tests to see if you're low have low iron or anemia or other factors that could be causing the sleep problems.
And that should happen before ADHD is is treated.
I mean, I think that's an important first step.
Um and this um is I'm gonna use those for my next book, by the way.
