It's a great outline.
Well, I think that the biggest thing is that untreated ADHD is not a benign disorder.
Um I uh now we have really convincing evidence that untreated ADHD doesn't just lead to
psychiatric or psychological problems like low self esteem.
It doesn't just lead to school problems like you not doing well in school.
But it often leads to really significant uh mental health and medical problems.
Um the the more recent studies suggesting that uh adults with ADHD have lower life expectancy.
You're talking years, you know, uh eight to nine years lower life expectancy, uh, because untreated ADHD leads to um
you know, really bad habits uh and cardiovascular problems and substance abuse problems.
And so I I I think it's not
Um
You have to balance benefits versus risks of treatment.
And when you look at the outcomes of individuals with ADHD, um, I think the on balance you want to you want to treat someone that has symptoms and impairment.
And what we've learned is that medicines are very helpful, um, but they don't cure ADHD.
Again, that that's why the message is medicines need to be combined with other interventions.
But they can make a huge difference uh if you can keep a child from being kicked out of school, if you can keep a couple uh together, um
so that they don't have explosive outbursts and can actually talk about their issues and then go to therapy together.
Um so I I I think the the message is that uh medicine's not a panacea, but it can make a big difference and that's easy to tell if it's working and it's helping.
Um now, um
Talking to teenage boys about their medicine, they may say it's not helping or it's not working.
