The most effective treatments are working in the in the kind of system the child is in.

um either the family system or the school system.

And that means working with the parents and working with the teachers.

Um and so again, if they have ADHD themselves, that's a significant uh effect.

Now, I started work in this area about 15 years ago when actually I was at the University of Chicago and we had this child ADHD clinic.

And we would evaluate all these children and then the parents would say, You know, I have that and I still do.

And and that's when we started treating adults.

Now it's kind of reversed.

Um I I saw two patients yesterday.

Where the parents were diagnosed with ADHD as adults

And they want to get ahead of it with their kids.

And so they're bringing their kids in for evaluation.

And actually neither of the children had ADHD.

they're both doing well in school, they're doing well socially.

There's some minor parenting issues that I think um parenting

uh behavioral parent training will be helpful.

But it's it's kind of the reversal of where it was twenty years ago.

Uh in that again the the parents are are coming in first and have been treated first.

And uh uh it you know, it's just it's really changed.
