And one of the most important things for that adaptation is corrective experiences.
Okay.
So this is something that I learned from very smart researchers.
One of them, Dr. Frank Anderson, is a psychologist who focuses on internal family systems.
But we see this also with other trauma therapies like EMDR.
And essentially what it says is whatever it is that you learned
Right.
I learned that if I asked for help, no one would come to my aid.
Then the corrective experience is asking for help and actually getting it.
And then your body and your brain and your nervous system can learn that.
So for someone who's really struggling, I really recommend...
Getting support, right?
Getting support, whether that is from a licensed professional, right?
Or even in the context of talking with a great girlfriend who you really trust and say, you know what?
I'm telling myself this story that if I...
ask for what I need, I'm not gonna get it, right?
Sometimes that support is with pharmacotherapy, right?
So sometimes we need a little something to help us be able to balance and regulate our stress response so that then we can learn, right?
Like our biology can learn, oh wait, there's a different outcome here.
