good way to think about it is in terms of like exercise, right?
The moments that you spend exercising really matter.
And we all kind of get that with exercise.
You can't run a marathon and then think, oh, good, I don't have to exercise for the next year, right?
I'm exercised up.
But we tend to think about that with happiness, with well-being, that I do this one big thing, I get this great job, I get this great house, get this great partner, get the kids off to college and all settled, and I'll be good for a long time.
That's not the way it works.
On Monday, then you got traffic again, and that sucks, right?
Or you read the news and that's unpleasant.
And what psychologists find is that our well-being, this comes from Ed Diener in the early discovery about happiness and well-being, is that it's really better predicted by the frequency of positive experiences we have, not by the intensity of them.
So that little moment when I was walking over here to have this conversation with you, it made that walk better.
Right.
So my, you know, that half hour walk over here was, was nicer because I reached out and connected to some of your neighbors in the area.
And, you know, when I'll walk back, you know, I'll do that again.
Probably that'll be better if I, you know, get to know somebody on a plane ride on the way home, even if it's just for a little bit, that'll make that plane ride better.
If I have a conversation with a Lyft driver on the way to the airport, that'll make that half hour better.
And you string those
Those moments together, and that's a good morning.
You string some of them together in the afternoon, that makes a good day.
You string some good days together like that, that's what makes a good week, right?
