Good weeks make for good months.
Good months make for good years and for good lives.
And so paying attention to moments, the frequency of connection and all these opportunities to engage with folks, even with just a smile or hello that you're overlooking, is a good way to just enrich your life.
And it's easy to overlook those.
Oh, so this comes from the consequences of feeling alone, right?
So we can look to see what is it that really predicts variability moment to moment in people's well-being.
Money actually has a pretty small effect, the correlation between how much money you make and how
how good you're feeling at any given moment is actually pretty small.
It's correlated with beliefs about how good a life you're living.
It's a really good metric of social comparison, but it's not very good determinant of your well-being.
What really accounts for variance in well-being are the quality of your social connections in any one moment.
And we all do understand this, that if you have a fight with your spouse in the morning before you leave,
Your whole day is just off, right?
Even just a moment of road rage that sticks with you for a long time.
That social conflict hurts.
And when psychologists try to compare, how big is the effect of that social stuff compared to other things like money?
Hard thing to do.
But one estimate, if you ask people, as Gallup does, they survey about 3,000 people a day.
in their daily well-being survey.
You ask people, were you with other people yesterday or did you spend the day alone?
