I didn't have a job.

I was a little bit lost.

And I thought, well, I'll just start my own business.

So I started a smoothie juice bar at the age of 22 in Miami.

And I did that for a few years.

And we were successful, but I was just really unhappy.

And I realized that I didn't want to do business.

I really wanted to go back into medicine.

So I switched and changed directions.

Wow.

Went to medical school.

Went to medical school.

And when I was in medical school, I mean, I was so thrilled to be there.

That is actually where I started to think about journalism because I love to communicate and teach and educate.

And I really I remember saying to my friends, you know, I want to do what Sanjay Gupta does.

And this was back in 2000.

And they thought I was crazy, but I knew that there was a real need for someone to kind of take what's happening in the science world and communicate it in a way that is effective, approachable, understandable.

And so that became my next dream was become a doctor and become a journalist all at the same time.
