Um Driggs and then Councilmember Johnson.

Uh it's interesting to me that this conversation is actually quite different from the one we had in committee.
Um my initial impression was uh wow, you know, an opportunity to make a huge investment in safety at no cost to local taxpayers sounds great.
Um
But uh
There are strings attached from in the way they present it.
So uh Chief, I guess what I would say to you is I still hope that we can get the benefit of an improvement in safety and no cost to local taxpayers.
Uh but I think what you're hearing here is that we have our strengths too.
Uh and so uh the question to you then as you listen to what you're being told is uh uh do you remain confident that you can uphold the
uh values of Charlotte and push back against interference in our conduct of our affairs if we accept this money.
Um
So uh I hope that we won't kill this now.
I hope that we will uh that we will continue to explore this and uh that we will potentially get the benefit if successful, which is not assured, but that uh that we will uh uh hopefully get the benefit of uh uh investments that really further your purpose and align with what we want.
And so um for now I guess I would just say to you, uh I hope what you've taken away from this is the fact that y you need to look harder at what you know, what they expect to get out of this.
