When I then, I guess, sort of sit in Chelsea's situation, I've got a little bit of a
yeah, different take on things than maybe might be expected.
So I actually would, I mean, on this theme of controlling the controllables, the first question that came to mind for me when Chelsea's expressed that she's sick of doing 20 applications and being ghosted is, well, maybe AI is not the problem.
Maybe the quality of your applications is.
Yeah, possibly.
So, you know, there's a few questions to answer in Chelsea's, I think, if I begin with, yes, AI is a thing.
Before AI, it was, you know, I used to bang on about this idea that an engineering manager might be looking to hire their next gun engineer.
They're not going to be the person who's going through the applications.
They've given it to a HR coordinator and
there's no problem with this, but that HR coordinator might have two years' experience, know nothing about engineering, and they're just simply looking at a list of dot points and trying to match that to a job ad.
So actually AI is simply doing what a HR or recruitment coordinator once did in human form.
Yeah.
Totally, because where an engineering manager can see the fullness of a job application because they actually understand what they're looking at from a technical point of view, but
A recruitment coordinator, a HR coordinator that's been doing a bunch of stuff for a couple of years in that sphere but has never necessarily become a technical expert in engineering or whatever, insert fill in blanks, yeah, they could miss like the read between the lines moment.
Well, if they're doing their job well enough in regards to colouring the resumes, like they're not doing their job well if they receive 100 applications and the engineering manager ends up with 90 of them because the HR coordinator's gone, I just wasn't sure about these 60.
And so the way I like to think about it is the advice then when that was more the norm and AI wasn't a part of the picture was to ensure you're using the keywords.
So you're really nailing like what are the keywords that you're finding in the job ad and how do you line those up with your application so that when someone who's less experienced technically is skim reading and frankly that's all that's happening on that first pass.
It jumps out.
30-second skim.
Yeah, it jumps out.
