There was a lot more building up to that conflict.

Her partner was an alcoholic.

He was abusive.

He had spent the day kind of tormenting her and saying that he was going to cheat on her as well as becoming violent.

So they're two quite different cases in my mind for like what the motivations might be, but both of them had this really similar treatment by the legal system.

And I was really interested in exploring the ways that we can treat women's anger and

and what kind of mitigating factors make us look at it differently.

And I was also really concerned with the idea of like, well, what am I capable of?

Um, so I have this illness.

Would I be capable of, of killing somebody?

Um, I would in many ways hope that I wouldn't, uh, be treated differently by the medical system or not the medical system be treated differently by the justice system if I did.

Um, but I find these cases really complicated.

Um,

Yeah, I don't think there is a right answer for how our justice system should treat like a premenstrual defence, so to speak.

Yeah, super complicated.

And I found there was a lot of nuance in these stories to unpick as well and to think about the fact that while I was researching them, there's all these legal complications, there's all this debate around, well, did they do it?

Is this just letting every woman off the hook, which is like...

this woman is like severely mentally ill and unwell um or is this like we're just going to make um reduce women to their biologies again like all of these like debates surrounding it and nothing from these two women like their voices were not on the page at all like i couldn't find i spent years trying to find out like what did they actually say what did they actually feel um

Like Christine, I have so much empathy for.

I feel like in many ways she was a battered woman.
